Homemade Dog Cookies

We all love to spoil our pups with treats and goodies in moderation, but you can never be too sure what ingredients are in the store bought  treats. Recent reports about dogs getting sick from eating chicken jerky treats and ingredient lists with things that don’t sound much like food had us looking for tasty alternatives.

This is an easy recipe our dogs love and what better way to spoil your pups than to make homemade treats.  Be sure the Peanut Butter you use doesn’t have Xylitol, a natural sweetener used as a sugar substitute, as it is toxic to dogs. If you're watching your dog’s weight try giving them fresh veggies, like baby carrots, green beans or even a slice of banana as a healthy treat.

Bone-appetite!

You will need:

2 ½ cups whole wheat flour

2 eggs

2 tablespoons peanut butter ( We chose a natural peanut butter to make sure there was no added sugars or sugar substitutes)

½ cup of canned pure pumpkin

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Baking Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees

  2. Mix together in large mixing bowl flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt and cinnamon. As you start to mix the ingredients together the dough should become thick. You can add water as needed to help mix ingredients together. If the dough is becoming too hard to mix you can knead the dough with your hands

  3. Once the dough is ready you can roll into quarter sized balls or roll out and use your favorite cookie cutter shapes

  4. Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 30 min.
